Tbilisi – Old City Walking Tour

Tbilisi is a city founded on two sides of the Kura (Mtkvari) river in the 5th century AD.
The history of the foundation of the city of Tbilisi goes back long before it began to be built as the capital of the Kingdom of Kartli. Artifacts and buildings found here date back to the 2nd century BC. people talk about the development of hot springs in ancient times. This place lay on the Silk Road and was the last fort to the capital of the then Iberia (Greek name) or Kartli, as the locals called this place. The fort was built in the 4th century and placed as a gateway to the capital and the ancient city of Mtskheta. The foundation of the city of Tbilisi (warm water) is associated with the name of King Vakhtang Gorgasali, who laid here the capital and fortress walls for two parts of the city, on the right bank a trading city, on the left the royal palace and courtiers.
The city developed over thousands of years, was the goal of conquest for many different peoples, became the center of the Transcaucasian market and goods of exchange. At its very foundation, a free economic duty-free zone was laid here, which led to a mixture of different confessions, peoples, cultures and languages. Each foreigner settling here brought new knowledge, culture, way of life. Everything perfectly reflected on the city and gives us a big book of history to tell the guests of Tbilisi.
